LOCAL THEATER: LOREM IPSUM
What happens when we cannot bring ourselves to leave? Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen staged the answer in 1881 with Ghosts, portraying a world of sexual repression, religious hypocrisy, and the inescapable influence of our parents’ choices. Local theater company Lorem Ipsum (The Threepenny Opera, Blood Wedding, Ubu Roi) revisits this piece of classical theater with the help of Last House Productions and Budget Fabulous Films, giving an immersive theater experience to Ibsen’s timeless examination of duty and deceit. Hailed by critics upon first staging as “a loathsome sore unbandaged,” “revoltingly suggestive and blasphemous,” and “a foul and filthy concoction,” this contemporary performance of Ghosts pours sea salt on the wounds of the past.
